Open position: PhD Researcher, protein adhesion experiments

The Faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen, jointly with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research IFAM, Bremen (Germany) is seeking to fill

1 PhD Position

within the newly established group "Hybrid Materials Interfaces" (Prof. Lucio Colombi Ciacchi) and the unit "Adhesives and Polymer Chemistry" (PD Dr. Andreas Hartwig). The appointment will be for three years, with remuneration offered according to the TVL-EG13 German salary scheme.

The successful candidate will work on experimental investigations of protein adhesion on technological materials surfaces, using solid state peptide synthesis, vibrational circular dichroism, atomic force microscopy and a variety of surface analytics techniques.

The candidate will be involved in the works of the DFG-funded Emmy-Noether project "Atomistic modeling of chemical and physical processes at the basis of cell adhesion on solid surfaces", of the EU-funded network "ADGLASS" coordinated by the Fraunhofer IFAM, as well as in various industry-related projects.

Applicants are expected to possess a solid background in (bio)chemistry, (bio)physics, (bio)engineering, materials science or related disciplines. Existing expertise with standard biochemical protocols and/or surface analytics techniques represents an advantage. Knowledge of the German language is not required.
